So I guess twenty hours per week at a combo of PT, gym, bouldering, walking and cycling has gotten me to where I can climb again after long downtime due to failed back surgery in 2001. Hope to remember Bob this August on one of Bob's favorite climbs, the Great Pumpkin on Fairview Dome. He used to do this climb as a kind of warm up and just-for-fun thing when in Meadows. I
I can see him now on the last pitch - cutoffs, face wrinkles and all. We would tussle over who was going to get that pitch, as we both liked leading. In fact, we often drew straws for the first pitch so the last pitch would work out as a lead. Readers probably know, that pitch is long and over a continuous sheet of golden knobs. I'm pretty sure Bob is still there in my mind. I can hardly wait to see him. |
